Whenever a Tenant moves in or moves out of any rented/leased residential premises, the Landlord and the Tenant(s) should conduct a joint inspection of the premises. This will allow the parties to determine if any part of the premises were damaged before the start of occupancy or during the duration of the lease. A Premises Move-In / Move-Out Inspection Checklist form is useful to document the inspection and can help avoid problems at the end of the lease. A type of form and documentation can also help the Landlord justify any security deposit deductions, if warranted.
