Create your own will - online options

Afraid to embark on the adventure of trying to find a lawyer who won’t charge you several hundred dollars to create a will? Concerned that the internet may lead you on a similar wild goose chase? Is the choice really one between the lesser of two evils?

There are plenty of online options for writing your own will that should protect both your future and present assets. Let’s see what’s out there on the internet for writing a will.

1 - Legalzoom is a good place for drafting your will. Legalzoom promises you a will in three easy steps.
You complete an online questionnaire. Legalzoom takes your answers and puts together your customized will. Legalzoom then mails you your will within 48 hours. Legalzoom promises to eliminate your dealing with an attorney and wasted time. Legalzoom’s will package includes a custom LegalZoom Last Will, property worksheet booklet, executor and guardian guides. Your last will and testament will either run you $69, $99 or $119 at Legalzoom. For $30 beyond the base price you get unlimited revisions of your will for a period of five years. This is important because your financial situation can change in that time period. Also beneficiaries of your will can pass on before you or more children could enter your family in that time period. For another $20, you get secure electronic storage of your will for a five year period, express email delivery of your will, and same day preparation.

Legalzoom also allows you to prepare a living will. A living will is a document where you set out in advance your decisions about artificial life support.

Legalzoom sounds good, let’s check them out some more.

2 - Findlegalforms.com offers wills and other legal forms for sale. You buy the document and download it after purchase. You take the boilerplate document and edit it with your own information. If you know what you are doing it is a piece of cake. If not, Findlegalforms.com often offers a checklist with each product to help you cover your bases. Not quite as nice as the personal review of Legalzoom but not quite as pricey either. Your average will starts at $19.95, but you may still need an attorney to complete it.

Findlegalforms.com also offers a host of related documents such as property questionnaire worksheets, will amendments, codicils, revocations, beneficiary and executor forms, etc. This may be extremely helpful or it may confuse you more. Worst case scenario, you spend $20 to find out why you need to spend more and have a professional prepare your will.
